Nine challenges around the topics of environment and mobility

Are you interested in sustainable innovations in areas such as environment and mobility? Do you want to work in interdisciplinary teams? Do you want to develop ideas to improve living conditions in sustainable cities and communities? Do you want to apply your theoretical knowledge to the development of solutions for current societal challenges? Then apply for the second WTZ Ost Hackathon „Digital Solutions for Societal Challenges – Environment & Mobility“!

At the Digital Solutions for Societal Challenges Hackathon (#WTZHackathon) interdisciplinary teams work on concepts for (participatory) digital solutions to current societal challenges. This years‘ hackathon focuses on the topics environment and mobility. Students and early career researchers from all disciplines can apply, either as a team or as individuals. Programming skills are welcome, but are not essential for participation.

The hackathon is organised in cooperation with the City of Vienna, DIGITALCITY.WIEN, UpLeveled, SDG Watch Austria and the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy, University of Vienna.

There will be experts from the City of Vienna, presenting background-information on the challenges and providing relevant data for the listed topics below. SDG Watch Austria will provide information on the Agenda 2030. Mentors from the City of Vienna and UpLeveled will support you during your project work.

What is the goal of the hackathon?

During the hackathon the teams will work on a challenge in order to develop a prototype or a concept for a possible digital solution. At the last day of the hackathon, each team will pitch their ideas to a jury. What you do with your ideas after the hackathon is up to you! But whatever you plan to do – whether it’s founding a social business or further developing your ideas together with experts from our cooperation partners: we’ll support you! We do not claim any rights on your projects.
